OUR OPERATION

Our current beekeeping strategy is that we winter all of our colonies outdoors, in insulated packs of four hives on a pallet. In the spring we import some New Zealand packages to replace part of the winter losses, and during the summer we split hives to try and get 1600-1700 colonies established for the next winter season.

we have 36 permanent wintering sites with good shelter and drainage and all hives are wintered in the same locations that we use in summer. To prevent spread of disease and pests, we limit movement of hives between bee yards, and treat hives on a yard by yard basis.

With arrival of new mites and pests, we have attempted to limit the use of pesticides by using testing and records to limit treatment to the infected yard sites and using organic treatments where feasible in low level infections.

Norlynn Honey Farm Inc. hires 4 seasonal workers and about 10 additional workers during the honey harvesting in July and August. So far, we have been able to recruit all of our workers from Canada. All of our family members have been involved with our bee business at some time

OUR PRODUCT

Our honey is white and mild flavoured, produced primarily from the nectar of canola, clover and alfalfa. Our honey is not filtered or heated during the extraction process.

After settling, our honey is stored in new barrels, that have been painted with food approved paints.

Norlynn Honey Farm Inc. Is registered with the Canadian Food Inspection agency (CFIA), and complies with the standards set by that agency.

HONEY SALES

Our honey can be purchased in truck load or partial loads. We generally sell our honey directly to Canadian or US packers, or to reputable honey brokers.
